WITH A GRINN (TECH), THEY MOVE FORWARD
THESE ARE WELL-KNOWN faces in this part of the country. Dr V Sumantran, an auto industry veteran and Lakshmi Narayanan, former vice-chairman of Cognizant, are on the board of this nascent venture, Grinntech. An investor-backed start-up, this one specialises in lithium- ion batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems. It has inked a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Tamil Nadu to set up a battery and battery management system manufacturing facility in the state. Since its incubation at IIT Madras Research Park,
Grinntech has seen several industry veterans coming in as investors into its fold. It already has a research and deve- lopment facility and a pilot plant in Chennai. The MoU is an indication of its move forward.
Grinntech has laid out a Rs 100-crore plan to beef up its R&D to step up product development and set up production facilities.
