IndiGo said it will implement a fuel charge on domestic and international routes for bookings made on or after 14 March 2026, due to the sharp increase in fuel prices amid the evolving geopolitical situation in parts of the Middle East.

This measure is taken due to the significant surge in fuel prices following the ongoing geopolitical issues in the Middle East. IATA’s Jet Fuel Monitor indicates an over 85 per cent increase in fuel prices for the region, the airline said in a statement.

Aviation Turbine fuel represents a significant share of airlines’ operating cost. This sudden and steep increase will have a material impact on all airlines costs and network, including IndiGo’s.  While offsetting the entire impact of this fuel price surge requires a very substantial adjustment to fares, IndiGo has introduced a relatively smaller amount as a Fuel Charge keeping in mind the consequential burden on customers, it said.

The airline will levy a fuel charge of Rs 425 on domestic flight bookings and Rs 425 for Indian Subcontinent routes.

For Middle East surcharge will be Rs 900 and it will be Rs 1,800 each for South East Asia and China and Africa routes. For Europe it would be Rs 2,300.

Recently, Air India Group had also announced levy of fuel surcharge
