Under the inclusive skill development initiative, sponsored by TN RIGHTS and the Commissionerate for the Welfare of the Differently Abled (CWDA), a batch of 40 differently- abled candidates have successfully completed training and assessment for the job role “Stitching Operator – Footwear” at a training centre run by Leather Sector Skill Council at Keezha Puliyur Village in Perambalur district of Tamil Nadu.

A function was organised at the district collector’s office on May 21 to give away certificates to those who had completed the course and also appointment letters to six who have been given jobs by KICL.

Ms Grace Lalrindiki Pachuau, District Collector, Perambalur, was the chief guest and Dr J Rafiq Ahmed, Executive Chairman and MD, KICL, the guest of honour.

The event was an effort to inspire the candidates. Also, it was seen as a role model initiative to foster industry engagement in socially impactful employment.

Rafiq Ahmed expressed happiness over the skill development initiative of Leather Sector Skill Council. He said that his organisation would identify the requirements and try to accommodate others as well with suitable placement. He called upon others in the industry to come forward and help in skilling differently-abled persons and also providing them jobs.
