Chennai, June 4, 2025: Signalling its foray into the waste management field, Kothari Industrial Corporation Ltd. (KICL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UAE-based BEEAH Tandeef International Investment Limited, Sharjah.

Under the MoU, the two will form a consortium to explore and jointly undertake business opportunities in Tamil Nadu in the fields of environmental conservation, waste management, waste-to-energy and related sectors.BEEAH Tandeef International Investment Limited is a subsidiary of the UAE-based BEEAH Group, a prominent sustainability and environmental services organisation. Operational across the UAE, KSA and Egypt, Tandeef serves cities such as Sharjah, Madinah City and Egypt’s new Administrative Capital.

It also serves commercial clients such as Dubai Airports, the Emirates Group, Dubai World Trade Centre, Burj Khalifa, Jumeirah Lake Towers and TECOM Group’s 11 business communities. The MoU was signed by Dr. Rafiq Ahmed, Executive Chairman and Managing Director, KICL, and Mr. Fahad Ali Shehail, CEO, Beeah Environment, UAE, on behalf of their respective organisations.

Sharing tech
According to the MoU, KICL and Beeah Tandeef will combine their respective expertise in technology, operations and marketing to deliver sustainable, innovative and efficient solutions in the waste management industry. Also, the MoU provides for their participation in tenders and public-private partnership opportunities, particularly within the state of Tamil Nadu, including under the Government of India’s “Swachh Bharat” initiative and other potential regions in India.

Expressing his thoughts on the MoU signing, Dr. Rafiq Ahmed, Executive Chairman and Managing Director, KICL, said, “We are very happy to announce this partnership with Beeah Tandeef, known for its world-class waste management. This tie-up will further help us to reach a wider base of customers across countries, and provide holistic, enduring and sustainable solutions to environmental issues in the waste management industry.”

Several initiatives
The agreement with the Sharjah-based company must be viewed in the context of a series of initiatives undertaken by the Tamil Nadu Government to woo investment into the State. It must also be read in the context of efforts made by the new promoter of KICL, Dr. Rafiq Ahmed, to bring yesteryear glory back to the company. Not long ago, a company belonging to the Royal family of Qatar picked up around 10 per cent stake in KICL. These signify the trust the global investor community has reposed in Dr. Rafiq Ahmed.

Innovations
Tandeef has introduced several industry innovations – from automated route optimisation to deploying the region’s first digital waste management platform. The company was also the first in the region to introduce solar-powered smart bins, which have built-in compactors and act as community Wi-Fi hotspots.

Tandeef conducts its operations using a smart, eco-friendly, and state-of-the-art fleet, which includes electric and CNG-powered vehicles. In addition to its commercial services, Tandeef conducts community outreach programmes to promote a culture of recycling and environmentalism.
