The other one lies in tackling the impact from climate change, which drives more frequent and intense hot nights. India has emerged as one of the global hotspots for climate-related sleep loss. In a new research by Climate Central across 107 Indian cities, Tamil Nadu stands out as the most affected with an average of 7.9 additional hours of sleep loss per person annually, the highest in the country. Chennai records the highest overall sleep loss among India’s major metros, with residents losing an average of 93 hours of sleep annually, of which 5 hours are directly attributable to climate change.  Sleep disruption has a bearing on public health and human productivity. The state must take measures to address this.
