The institute, located at Master Atul Government ITI, will begin its first session in September 2025 and will train over 100 students annually across four trades—Mechanic Motor Vehicle, Machinist, Welder, and Fitter—according to a company statement.

JIM Sonipat is Maruti Suzuki’s fourth such institute in India and the second in Haryana, after Uncha Majra. The company has invested over ₹10 crore in setting up the new facility.

Affiliated with the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) and accredited by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), JIM Sonipat will offer a blend of classroom learning and practical training. The curriculum includes modules on safety, quality, discipline, and Japanese manufacturing techniques such as kaizen.

Maruti Suzuki’s Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Mr. Rahul Bharti, said the institute would help bridge the gap between training and industry needs. “We aim to equip students with relevant skills and work ethics that improve employability and contribute to the automobile sector,” he noted.

The Sonipat facility has been developed in partnership with the Haryana government, which provided the land and building. Maruti Suzuki has upgraded the infrastructure, installed training equipment, and set up an assembly line to simulate real manufacturing environments.

The Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing was established under a 2016 agreement between the governments of Japan and India to promote manufacturing skills in the country. The goal is to train 30,000 youth over 10 years. So far, over 2,100 students have been trained across Maruti Suzuki’s JIMs in Mehsana, Gandhinagar, and Uncha Majra.
