Motivelink investment: Major win for TN

The Tamil Nadu government signed a memorandum of understanding with Motivelink Co. Ltd. (also known as Motilink), South Korea's leading manufacturers of electric vehicle components, for the establishment of a new manufacturing facility at SIPCOT, Pillaipakkam, in Kancheepuram district. The state government has bagged the investment for which Andhra Pradesh was in the race.

The proposed facility will manufacture advanced electric vehicle components for global markets and is expected to generate around 1,500 direct and indirect employment opportunities. The company will invest Rs 300 crore.

The investment follows State Industries Minister S. Keerthana’s official visit to Republic of Korea in June. She had held detailed discussions with senior leadership of Motivelink on Tamil Nadu’s strengths as India’s premier destination for advanced manufacturing, electric mobility and global supply chains. The engagement focused on showcasing the State’s industrial infrastructure, skilled talent pool and investor-friendly ecosystem, while encouraging the company to establish its India manufacturing base in Tamil Nadu.

The investment will further strengthen Tamil Nadu’s leadership in the electric vehicle manufacturing ecosystem while expanding the State’s growing network of global automotive suppliers. The unit is planned on a “Make in Tamil Nadu for the Global Market” approach, serving customers in Europe, North America and other global markets. Motivelink has proposed to act as an anchor investor and bring Korean tier-1 suppliers in coils, PCBs, magnetics, housings and plastics to Tamil Nadu.

Interestingly, Andhra Pradesh was also eyeing for the investment and its Minister for HRD and IT Nara Lokesh had also  met representatives of the company during his visit to South Korea.

“The world’s leading companies today have no shortage of choices. Our responsibility is to ensure that Tamil Nadu is always at the top of that list,” Keerthana said.

“We are taking Tamil Nadu’s strengths directly to global investors and showcasing why our State remains India’s most competitive destination for advanced manufacturing. During my visit to the Republic of Korea, we presented that vision to Motivelink, and I am delighted that the company has now chosen Tamil Nadu for its next manufacturing base,” she said.

This investment strengthens our electric vehicle ecosystem, creates quality jobs for our youth and reaffirms the confidence that global companies have in Tamil Nadu’s future, Keerthana added.
