Ola’s LFP cell gets BIS certification

Ola Cell Technologies (OCT), a wholly owned subsidiary of Ola Electric, has received the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for its indigenously developed LFP 46100 cylindrical cell. Ola Electric becomes the first Indian company to receive BIS certification for an indigenously developed cell.

Developed with significant localization across materials, components, engineering, and manufacturing processes, the LFP 46100 demonstrates Ola Electric’s growing ability to develop, qualify, and industrialize advanced cell technologies within India, the company said in a statement.

To achieve the BIS certification, Ola Electric’s 46100 LFP Cell underwent a series of stringent safety, performance, and endurance tests at a National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL)- accredited laboratory.

The certified LFP 46100 platform expands Ola Electric’s in-house cell portfolio beyond its NMC 4680 Bharat Cell and establishes a qualified technology foundation for future electric vehicles and stationary energy-storage solutions, the company said.

Offering an energy density of over 170 Wh/kg, broad operating-temperature capability, and a development pathway towards more than 4,000 charge-discharge cycles, the cell is designed to address applications where safety, lifecycle, and cost are as critical as energy and power performance, it added.

The company’s Gigafactory forms the cornerstone of its long-term battery strategy.  Both NMC and LFP battery technologies are developed on the same 46-series platform,

“As we continue to expand our in-house cell portfolio, we are creating the technological foundation required to accelerate EV adoption, support future energy storage solutions and strengthen India’s energy independence,” an Ola Electric spokesperson said.
