In consultation with experts, alternative sites would be  identified in such a manner so that there was no big impact on farm lands and housing, he added

Detailed technical feasibility studies would be undertaken with respective departments and soon a new site would be finalized, he said.

Vijay said that Meenambakkam Chennai Airport terminal 5 expansion would be pursued in consultation with Airport Authority of India. This would handle additional 20 million traffic, he added.

Once the Terminal 3 work was completed, the annual capacity would l increase to 35 million passengers, he said.

With the Terminal 5, the capacity would increase to 55 million, he said. This would enable to meet the growing demand until a new airport was constructed, Vijay said.
