TSF group to enter JV with Bosch

The over Rs 29,000 crore Trichur Santhanam Family (TSF) Group, which comprises the T.S. Santhanam branch of the erstwhile TVS group, is planning to form a 50:50 joint venture with Bosch for the development and manufacture of next-generation electronically controlled air system products for commercial vehicles (trucks and buses), to be sold worldwide.

Globally, there is a shift in OEMs towards modular, electronically controlled air and braking platforms and suspension systems, which is the product portfolio of the joint venture, according to a statement.

The joint venture will focus on engineering, manufacturing and sales of electronically controlled and software-driven modules for air-compression, air-processing, air-suspension and air-parking brakes.

The proposed joint venture seeks to combine Bosch’s strengths in electronics and software, sensing and control systems with the mechanical system design, pneumatic management architecture and manufacturing capabilities available within Brakes India and Wheels India.

“As part of the TSF Group, Wheels India has been a pioneer in air-suspension systems for buses in India for over three decades. Over this period, we have built strong relationships with both OEMs and end-users through consistent product quality and service. We are pleased to collaborate with Bosch on this development initiative to advance electronic air- suspension systems for the global customers,” Srivats Ram, Chairman & Managing Director, Wheels India, said.

TSF Group has presence in the automotive industry across segments, including manufacturing, parts distribution, vehicle dealership and vehicle financing. The flagship companies in the Group include Wheels India Ltd., Brakes India and non-banking finance company Sundaram Finance.

Wheels India is a leading manufacturer of wheels for trucks, agricultural tractors, passenger vehicles and construction equipment; air suspension systems for trucks and buses; and industrial components for the construction and windmill industry with manufacturing plants in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Andhra Pradesh.
