“I recommended the decision on my extension should be deferred because it was a request made by the directors,” Chandrasekaran told after the Tata Sons board meeting.

News reports said disagreements broke out in the board meeting. During the board meeting, Tata Trusts chairman Noel Tata raised issues around losses in certain group companies, the reports said.

On 11 February 2022, the Tata Sons board reappointed N Chandrasekaran as Chairman for a further five-year period. His current term ends in February 2027.

Tata Sons is the principal investment holding company and promoter of Tata companies. 66 per cent of the equity share capital of Tata Sons is held by philanthropic trusts, which support education, health, livelihood generation, and art and culture.
