Welcome focus on  Fire Safety by DuPont

DuPont Sustainable Solutions (DSS), headquartered in Singapore, deserves compliment for its consistent focus on industrial safety. DSS organises seminars highlighting the importance of this issue. A recent virtual workshop organised in cooperation with the Indian Chemical Council, on the theme, Keep your biggest hazards and risks from turning into a nightmare,  is a continuation of this.

This American chemical giant has its experience accumulated over 200 years in handling hazardous chemicals and a variety of risk-prone activities. It has been liberally sharing this expertise with companies spread across the globe.

Through the Covid times India continued to have its share of accidents like the fire at Bongaigon refinery, gas leakage at LG Chem, Vizag and a boiler blast at NLC. In the webinar the experts discussed in detail the safety measures to be adopted as also the standard operating procedures (SOP) to ensure safety.

The organised sector of industrial units does invest on safety measures. However, the consciousness is not widely spread among medium and small industries. Tamil Nadu, which accounts for a large share of fire cracker production, witnesses a few accidents every year through explosion in such units, resulting in deaths and injuries to several. These units are not exposed to the awareness or training to prevent such hazards. Tamil Nadu does not also have a large, diversified chemical industry. Its share is only six per cent of  Indian chemical production.  DSS could work with the state government as also the industry associations to spread awareness on fire hazards and the effective means of protecting against these.
