“Today, we celebrate the shipment of India’s first-ever semiconductor equipment from Coimbatore, thanks to Yield Engineering Systems (YES) – a deal we struck during Honourable Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru. @MKStalin avargal’s visit to the US last year,” said Tamil Nadu’s Industry Minister T.R.B. Rajaa, on micro-blogging site X. “From the early days of Nokia and Foxconn to becoming India’s number one electronics exporter by a significant margin, Tamil Nadu is now making strides in semiconductors with a strong policy framework,” he said.  “This isn’t just a milestone for Tamil Nadu; it’s for #Kovai … #KovaiRising!,” he added in his X post. With the recent announcement of a Rs. 500-crore Semiconductor Mission in the Tamil Nadu Budget 2025, Coimbatore is poised to become a global semiconductor hub. “The commencement of shipments from the YES manufacturing facility in Tamil

Nadu marks a remarkable advancement for India’s semiconductor industry. This initiative aligns perfectly with our national vision of building a self-reliant and robust semiconductor ecosystem. We are committed to providing all necessary support to foster further growth and innovation in this sector, thereby bolstering India’s position in the global semiconductor market”, said S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.

“This milestone of the first shipment from the Sulur facility underscores our unwavering commitment to strengthening the India semiconductor ecosystem, which will enable the efficient delivery of our products to customers in India and beyond,” stated Ramakanth Alapati, Chairman and CEO of YES. “This facility is fully integrated with our global manufacturing network, allowing us to consistently provide the reliability and technical expertise that our customers expect.”

YES, a leading manufacturer of process equipment for AI and high-performance computing (HPC) semiconductor solutions, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu in August 2024 to establish a manufacturing and new product development facility in Coimbatore with an investment of approximately Rs. 150 crore over the next decade. The project aims to create around 300 direct jobs, with 200 of them expected within the next five years, and an additional 1,200 indirect jobs through suppliers and contract manufacturers.

“This facility brings us closer to our customers, provides scalable manufacturing and engineering infrastructure and allows us to contribute to India’s growing semiconductor ecosystem. Our efforts align with the Tamil Nadu government’s vision of making Coimbatore a global semiconductor capital equipment hub,” said Rama Alapati, CEO and Chairman of YES.
