Dixon to make HP laptops in Tamil Nadu

Listen to this article

AS THE WORLD is wobbling under the Trump-induced trade war, quietly Tamil Nadu, is quietly emerging as a powerhouse for electronics manufacturing in India. In a silent move, Dixon Technologies has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to establish a state-of-the-art laptop manufacturing facility at Oragadam, near Chennai. Projected to involve an investment outlay of Rs 1,000 crores, this facility will be producing HP laptops and is expected to generate over 5,000 jobs. This decision of Dixon is seen as upvote for the policies of the state. This move comes at a time when Tamil Nadu is on a mission to build a USD 100 billion electronics manufacturing ecosystem. The authorities are hopeful that the Dixon decision would encourage others also to consider Tamil Nadu as their preferred manufacturing hub, further strengthening India’s position in the global supply chain.
