The current term of Venu Srinivasan expires on October 23.

The reappointment of Srinivasan, chairman emeritus of TVS Group, was reported to be unanimous. Tata Trusts, the umbrella body overseeing several charitable trusts including the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the Sir Ratan Tata Trust, holds a 66 per cent stake in Tata Sons – the holding company of the 156-year-old Tata Group.

With the reappointment of Venu Srinivasan, the focus now is on the renewal of Mehli Mistry’s trusteeship, which is set to expire on 28 October.

The reappointments in Tata Trusts – especially coming as they do after the demise of Ratan Tata – have kicked up intense debate within and outside the Tata empire. Now, all eyes are on the reappointment of Mehli Mistry.
