Toyota to build new plant in Maharashtra

Toyota Kirloskar Motor said it plans to build a new vehicle manufacturing plant in the Bidkin Industrial Area, Maharashtra, India.

The new plant, which is the company’s third plant in India, is planning to start production in the first half of 2029 and is aimed to strengthen Toyota’s business foundation in the Indian market.

The new plant will be positioned to steadily deliver vehicles not only to customers in India but also to customers in surrounding regions, the company said in a statement.

The plant will produce the company’s new SUV and will have a production capacity of 100,000 vehicles/year and employ about 2,800 people.

Toyota will continue strengthening its production structure to enable flexible response to future demand growth and market changes in India and surrounding regions, and to deliver products in a timely manner that customers choose, the company said.

Toyota Motor Corporation (Japan) owns 89 per cent in Toyota Kirloskar Motor, while remaining 11 per cent is owned by Kirloskar Systems Limited (India). The company currently has an installed capacity of 3,42,000 units.

The company’s first plant in Bidadi commenced production in December 1999 and has a capacity of 1,32,000 units. The plant manufacturers models like Innova HyCross, Innova Crysta, Fortuner, Legender.

The second plant also on the same site in Bidadi commenced production in 2010 and has an installed capacity of to 2,10,000 units and makes models such as Camry Hybrid, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Hilux.
