Technology has become an integral part of every field and automobile is no different. “High-end cars like Porsche have 100 million lines of code, that is more than an aircraft. In India, automobiles have at least 50 million lines of code and a significant value comes from software,” said Srivats Ram, Chairman CII TN State Council and MD Wheels India. At the 4th edition of CII-TNTDPC conference on emerging technologies, he pointed to Tamil Nadu leading in both IT and automobiles which gives the ability to meet the needs of modern automobiles. For this transformation to become reality, skilled manpower is necessary.

“The Naan Mudhalvan scheme covers all colleges across the state and offers a 2-credit course every semester to skill college students. It is both integrated and structured and enables students to be adaptable to changing environments and requirements of industry,” pointed Innocent Divya, IAS, MD, TN Skill Development Corporation. A recent hackathon with problem statement from industries was conducted and Anna University offered 12-credits for the same. Apart from this Innovation Vouchers are issued and successful teams are handheld with Startup TN to mature as a company. “Government is open to industry demands. We need to mature to an ecosystem and have labour management information system which will help forecast and predict the skill demand real-time,” highlighted Divya. Around 13.18 lakh students have benefitted from the Naan Mudhalvan scheme and states like Odisha, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh have come forward to study the success of the model. Soon a Finishing School Programme is also to be rolled out, which would help with upskilling.
