ONDC and Chennai Metro Collaborate…

The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has launched ticketing services of Chennai Metro on its platform. This move marks the first instance of a metro service in India becoming available on the ONDC Network.

Starting this month, commuters can effortlessly purchase single journey and return journey tickets through popular buyer apps on the ONDC Network, including Rapido, Namma Yatri, and redBus. Additionally, integration with Google Maps and PhonePe is in the pipeline, providing customers with more choices and enhancing overall convenience.

The successful integration was made possible through the collaboration between Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) and Yaary, the seller-side technology partner for metros on the ONDC Network. The seamless ticketing experience not only simplifies the purchasing process but also sets the stage for a holistic, multimodal transportation experience.

Koshy, MD & CEO of ONDC, expressed enthusiasm about this development and announced it is set to expand further, with other metro services like Kochi, Kanpur, Pune and more.

M A Siddique, Managing Director of CMRL, emphasised the significance of this partnership, stating, “by partnering with ONDC, CMRL is now completely opening up access to its ticketing application service, allowing a wide range of app developers to integrate their apps with the CMRL ticketing system.”
