The fair was held between April 2 and 6. It drew over 60,000 industry professionals, exhibitors and policy-makers.

Organised biennially by the Madras Machine Tools Manufacturers’ Association (MMTMA), this edition highlighted Tamil Nadu’s pivotal role in India’s manufacturing revitalisation in the context of global supply chain realignments and the progression toward Industry 4.0.
Spanning 26,000 square meters of air-conditioned exhibition space at the strategically
situated Chennai Trade Centre, just 5 km from the international airport, the event showcased live demonstrations of CNC machines, automation systems, cutting tools and smart factory solutions. Operating daily from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, it facilitated extensive networking and included dedicated zones for innovation, sustainability and technical conferences on automation trends and green manufacturing.

Technological showcases
IMTOF 2026 showcased innovations essential to sectors such as automotive, aerospace and heavy engineering, including AI-enhanced machine tools, precision metrology and energy-efficient automation.

International exhibitors from Europe, Japan, and Southeast Asia partnered with Indian OEMs, promoting technology transfers and export opportunities.
Prominent sessions highlighted fiscal incentives under India’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes, aligning with the national objective of establishing a $1 trillion manufacturing economy by 2030.

For Tamil Nadu’s robust engineering ecosystem, featuring clusters in auto components and MSMEs, IMTOF acted as a catalyst, enabling small and medium enterprises to upgrade capabilities and adopt sustainable practices. The event’s focus on digital twins – IoT-enabled tooling and robotics – aligned with post-pandemic recovery strategies, elevating Chennai as a southern hub competitive with Pune and Bengaluru.

Ripple effects
In terms of the economy, IMTOF created million-dollar business-to-business transactions and revitalized Chennai’s hotel and logistics industries. Public-private synergies were underlined by MMTMA’s ambition of connecting global best practices with local governance, mirroring the decentralized innovation ideals of Panchayati Raj. A focused atmosphere was guaranteed by visitor protocols, such as online registration and professional access (no minors under 12).

Anticipation at IMTOF 2026 was heightened by social media loops that documented best moments from agreement signings to machinery unveilings. Events like IMTOF strengthen India’s strategic advantage as the Trump Administration considers Indo-Pacific manufacturing agreements.
IMTOF’s contribution to skill development and budgetary stabilization was reaffirmed by
MMTMA in a post-event statement. This trade show created avenues for India’s industrial growth in addition to showcasing tools.
