Ready to battle
Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Events (MICEs) have increased in Chennai and the city has seen a spurt in all these activities.
WITH MORE AND more business travellers coming to the city for short trips, the hospitality sector has
blossomed. Along with it, to transport the expats to the hotels, the car rental industry has boomed. Many Chennai based companies have technically and professionally equipped themselves to handle this surge and a slice of a few of them.

Bala Tourist

M P Balakrishnan started “Bala Tourist Service” with a single second hand Fiat car. Today it owns 45
cars with a fleet of 270 vehicles. He works round the clock as if every day is day one. His son Pradeep
moved the business to the next level by introducing technology into the system. “We offer from a Maruti to a Mercedes and most of our clients prefer us for the medium to high range cars,” said Pradeep.

“We have never had a marketing department and it is just by word of mouth we have come all along,”
proudly said Pradeep. He also pointed out that the Tamil Nadu state laws that permit only certain vehicles to be used as taxis.

USP:Balakrishnan who has etched a name for himself in this field is the USP for this company. With
an ISO 9001: 2008 certification, the company has quality as its main focus.

Forza

G Srikrishna Dayal, Director - Forza, has worked with an airlines taking care of business travel. Business travellers found it difficult to rent high- end cars and the industry lacked the professionalism that they demanded. To bridge this gap, he conceived Forza in 2007. “When we started we found that car rental companies operated from low end to high end cars but we took a tough call to focus on quality rather on numbers, as quality would provide value in the long term,” said Dayal.
