Hyundai India achieves 7 mn production at Chennai factory

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has rolled out its 7-millionth car at its factory in Irrungattukottai near Chennai, since it commenced production in India in 1998.

The South Korean auto maker has set an ambitious target of producing about three million vehicles over the next five years in order to reach a milestone of 10 million units by 2021. With this, Hyundai has achieved the distinction of being the second best position amongst its overseas peers, only after China, in Hyundai Motor Group and the first auto manufacturer, in India to achieve this feat in a record time within 18 years of commercial operation, according to a statement.

“HMIL has always set new benchmarks in terms of quality and customer delight by introducing new products with new technology and design to the Indian market, demonstrating superior manufacturing prowess,” said

Y K Koo, Managing Director and CEO, HMIL.

HMIL is the largest car exporter from India and has sold 24.6 lakh units of made in India cars outside the country till date.
