IF WE GO by the recent releases of ASSOCHAM, Odisha accounts for about 12 per cent of the total private investment lined up in the country, which makes it the second best destination in attracting private investments after Gujarat. It says: Odisha has attracted private investments worth Rs 8 lakh crore in the last few years, till December 2012. The state’s total outstanding investment now aggregates to a whopping Rs 11.7 lakh crore. For the untrained eyes that mouth-watering proposition but for the people in the know that’s the Achilles heel of Odisha! Projects are piling up and not materialising into reality for various assorted reasons including problems in land acquisition and getting environmental clearances. Hope, Naveen Patnaik is listening!
