The partnership marks a significant step towards strengthening the connection between academia, industry and entrepreneurship.
At the heart of the collaboration is a shared vision to bring global academic standards closer to real-world industry experience and prepare students and aspiring entrepreneurs for the opportunities of a rapidly evolving economy.
As part of the MoU, the two institutions will explore establishing a Venture Creation Hub in Chennai, alongside industry-linked learning programmes across management and technology, an official statement said.
The proposed Venture Creation Hub in Chennai will aim to support aspiring founders in translating ideas into viable business ventures. By encouraging entrepreneurial thinking and providing exposure to industry perspectives, the initiative will explore ways to help early-stage entrepreneurs develop and scale their ideas.
The partnership brings together UWA’s global academic and research strengths with KICL’s century-long industrial legacy and its diverse network of businesses and affiliates spanning agro-inputs, drones, media, hospitality, logistics, footwear and education. This combination is expected to create a platform where academic knowledge, industry insights and practical application can come together to nurture future-ready talent.
The institutions will explore industry-linked management and technology programmes designed around emerging business and workforce requirements.
The proposed areas of learning will include AI-enabled decision-making in business and technology, technology for managers, and management for technologists. By connecting these disciplines with industry perspectives, the collaboration aims to make learning more relevant, applied and responsive to the demands of the future.
“India now needs creators and leaders for a new age. By bringing UWA’s global impact together with KICL’s industry affiliates and network, we are building in Tamil Nadu a model for how global academia and industry can work together. It is a win-win for students, industry, academia and the wider economy,” J. Rafiq Ahmed, Executive Chairman & Managing Director, Kothari Industrial Corporation Ltd, said.
“The future of education lies in creating stronger connections between academic learning and the world beyond the classroom. Our collaboration with Kothari Industrial Corporation Limited provides an opportunity to bring together global academic expertise, industry experience and entrepreneurial thinking,” Professor Rajaraman Eri, Pro Vice Chancellor, The University of Western Australia, said.
Through initiatives such as the proposed Venture Creation Hub and industry-linked learning programmes, we hope to create meaningful pathways for students and emerging entrepreneurs to turn knowledge into ideas, innovation and impact, he added.
“It is time to demonstrate how industry and academia can complement each other and create learning experiences that are practical, relevant and accessible. Our collaboration with UWA is an important step towards developing new-age entrepreneurs and leaders by connecting academic learning with industry insights, emerging technologies and real-world opportunities. We hope to build a model that can create meaningful impact and open up opportunities for a wider pool of talent,” Mathivathani R P, Director – Education, Kothari Industrial Corporation Ltd, said.
Following the signing of the MoU, the two institutions will work towards defining the scope, structure and implementation of the proposed initiatives, including the Venture Creation Hub and industry-linked management and technology programmes in Chennai. Further details will be announced as the plans are finalised.
