CANCER REMAINS A significant health challenge in Tamil Nadu, with around 100,000 new cases reported annually. Breast cancer is the most common among women, with an incidence rate of 28.5 per 100,000 women. Early detection initiatives have improved awareness and survival rates. In a collaborative effort, the Rotary Club of Madras and Cancer Institute Adyar have installed a state-of-the-art Japanese machine worth Rs 1.25 crore at the old government hospital in Tiruvannamalai. Linked to Cancer Institute Chennai, the machine enables high-quality breast c a n c e r s c r e e n ing and real-time diagnosis. The initiative will expand to rural areas, with Villupuram as the next location.
