Chinese smart phones flourish in small towns too!

Chinese vendors have captured more than 20 per cent of the smartphone market in 25 Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities of India,” said Navkendar Singh, Senior Research Manager, IDC India.

“In Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, China-based vendors are eating into the 4G device share of global brands,” says Varun Singh, Market Analyst, Channels, IDC India.

Price parity between offline and online channels has been a constant concern for the traditional distribution channel.

“While exclusive online models will continue to generate demand, new government regulations forbidding predatory pricing and dominance by a few sellers on the e-commerce marketplace will help bring back the pricing hygiene across channels and a level playing ground for all brands” according to Upasana Joshi, Senior Market Analyst, Channels, IDC India.

Samsung continues to dominate the market space amongst top 30 cities, with 29.7 per cent share in Q1 2016.  Apple continues to dominate the above-$300 price segment significantly, with a share of 52.3 per cent in Q1 2016.
