INDUSTRIAL ECONOMIST (IE) is the product of two Ps – Patience and Perseverance – assiduously practised by its founder late S. Viswanathan. For over five decades, this monthly magazine has played a stellar role in articulating the developmental initiatives of the state and religiously reflected the happenings in the business world. So much so, IE was always known to mirror the ground realities. IE survived the test of time largely due to the indomitable spirit of SV (as Viswanathan is known among friends and peers) and the equally passionate members of his ilk. Aided by a small dedicated team and sup ported by well-wishers and expert writers from assorted fields, IE sailed along on the shoulders of SV since he founded it in March 1968, until he breathed his last while on a journalistic duty in October 2022. Post-SV, IE did chug along. However, a combination of factors brought down the curtains a few months ago.
IE’S REVIVAL UNDER NEW LEADERSHIP
Just as one thought that SV’s years of hard work would go into the pages of history, Rafiq Ahmed emerged as a good samaritan to revive IE. He has taken charge as the new head of Kothari Industrial Corporation Ltd. (KICL), founded by the late D C Kothari. According to him, hard work will never go waste. With a new zeal and passion, Ahmed is convinced that legacy brands should never be allowed to disappear. Apart from the legacy, Ahmed sees in IE an opportunity and responsibility to serve the society.
Following a licensing agreement with the members of the SV family, KICL will publish IE in digital and print formats. It is my plea sure to inform the readers that the online edition of IE (https://industrialeconomist.com/) is already back. As we recommence our journey under a new corporate dispensation, a greater responsibility is cast on our shoulders. Our endeavour is to offer a no-frill, easy-to-comprehend and a reader friendly magazine. IE will essentially focus on developmental economics and business.
In a fast-paced environment, news consumption has undergone a major meta morphosis. With competition coming from unlikely quarters, traditional media outfits are struggling to survive.
Often one finds that the happenings around us occupy little space in the media world. It is our endeavour to correct this. We, at IE, will strive to picture Tamil Nadu and the southern corporate scene in right perspective, and set it to the national and global contexts.
It is against this backdrop, IE is taking guard to commence a new innings. With the backing of an iconic D C Kothari group, we hope to take IE to an elevated status in the media world. We look forward to your good wishes and continued support. On our part, we reiterate our commitment to quality and fairness.
